Saliva; Sex Hormones $320, Cortisol $260
The most accurate way to test following the hormones: the three estrogens, testosterone, progesterone, DHEA, Melatonin and DHT. We use saliva to measure the free available hormones that you body can actually use. In the blood, we have sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) which binds hormones and makes them unavailable. You may see one number on blood tests, but your body might but able to utilize them freely. It is important that the hormone panel includes dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a stronger version of testosterone that increases men’s risk of prostate cancer and can cause hair loss in women. For the cortisol test (measuring your adrenal function), unfortunately, we cannot get a lab to draw your blood at 8am, noon, 4pm and 10pm. Measuring at those different times are important for treatment, which is why the saliva works so well. You are given the kit and are able to test in the privacy of your own home.
